Senior consultant urologist with competence in kidney transplantation, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and abdominal ultrasound.
Robotic surgery with the Da Vinci system
Since his training, Dr. Elec has worked extensively in laparoscopic urology, which has gradually given way to robotic surgery with the Da Vinci system. Laparoscopic procedures – for prostate cancer, for example – could not match open surgery in functional results; they are now successfully replaced by robot-assisted procedures, which offer a magnified operative field, better instrument handling and minimal invasiveness. The choice between open, laparoscopic or robotic surgery must be tailored to each patient on medical grounds.

Laparoscopic surgery
Dr. Elec develops innovative techniques in urological surgery and kidney transplantation, including renal autotransplantation with minimally invasive, laparoscopic kidney retrieval – for untreatable ureteral injuries, vascular malformations and tumours in a solitary kidney. In one such operation, the kidney was retrieved by 3D laparoscopy, perfused with preservation solution and cooled to limit ischaemic damage, the tumour was removed by partial nephrectomy, the kidney was reconstructed ex vivo and autotransplanted into the iliac fossa, in a patient with a complex tumour in a solitary kidney. Both procedures were performed for the first time in Romania.
His surgical experience comes from more than 20 years of intensive clinical work, with over 2,000 operations in the last 5 years, focused on minimally invasive uro-oncological surgery and kidney transplantation.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your empathy and your work. You are the only doctor who took on such an operation. From our very first conversation we felt you were by our side and on the patient's side. You are a remarkable person. God bless you!”
